mHealth App Improves Medication Adherence

A mobile health application helps organ transplant patients adhere to their immunosuppresant medication treatment by sending reminders, tracking doses, assisting with refills and allowing friends and family to send encouragement.

The Challenge

A leading multinational biopharmaceutical company approached NewPage to develop a Mobile Application medication tracking and reminder tool for organ transplant patients. Patients are prescribed immunosuppressants before and after a transplant procedure to reduce the strength of the body’s immune system and decrease the likelihood of organ rejection. Utilizing a Mobile Tracking App is key to helping patients adhere to the long-term medication treatments they doctors have prescribed.

The Approach

NewPage was selected for the project because of our demonstrated experience developing Mobile Health Applications and Patient Engagement solutions that leverage tested and proven emerging digital health technologies. Knowing that a user-friendly interface would be key to helping patients adhere to their medication treatments, we created a solution that allows patient to quickly and easily record their medications; manage doctor appointments; and record and track their physical activity. Patients can record and share audio messages and images to improve the quality of interactions with their healthcare provider. Family members can also use the application to support and encourage the patient.

The Results

Leveraging of our extensive experience developing Patient Engagement and Mobile Health Apps, NewPage was able to reuse tested and proven pre-built features and components and adapt them to meet the unique needs of the client. As a result, our client was able to launch their mHealth solution quickly and cost effectively to patients in Argentina. The app is available for iOS and Android devices.
